Is anyone taking Buspar with another medicine like an antidepressant. I got off the Zoloft 3 weeks ago and started taking Buspar for the anxiety, but now I am really depressed! I have read that some people take an antidepressant with the Buspar, but I called my Dr and the nurse said thats not advised. So I am going to see him on Friday morning, but wanted to know if anyone here has had any experiences with this.

hope this helps... as of today i am in my second day of being off buspar.. i was on it for about 6 weeks.. when i first started taking it the first week or so was really questionable with it.. i would get very dizzy and have "brain zaps" about 30 min after taking it.. these feelings would go away after about 20 min or so.. and after the first week it all together went away.. the only time i would get those sensations is if i took it too close together.. the buspar seemed to help once i gave it a chance.. i was not taking any antidepressants with it.. as i am not ok with being on meds in the first place ... anyhow after about 3 weeks on the buspar it felt as though i was getting the opposite effect from it.. depression was starting to set in and i just felt as if i was not on any meds what so ever.. my dr took me off the buspar and gave me xanax on an as needed basis.. 2 days off buspar and i still havent had to take a xanax!!
if your new to buspar.. just stick with it and give it a chance to do what its designed to do.. which believe me its going to take a few weeks.. but just keep looking to the positive that it will work for you... and i wish you the best! hopefully this answer was helpful to you

Thanks for your response. The Buspar really seems to help with the anxiety, but I have always had issues with depression and have been on and off meds since I was a teen. I went to the Doc today and he put me on Celexa along with the Buspar said they would complement each other. My sister also is on this combo and has been for 2 years now and she is doing extremely well. She travels, and works outside the home with no issues at all. I am hoping to get back to that place! Well we also do Yoga and excersize and I know that helps too.

I know I'm really late in responding to this, but I just read it.....I can't believe you said you had brain zaps 30 minutes after you'd take the Buspar...I had the very same thing and every doctor I told that to thought I was a nut. Phew! glad to hear I wasn't the only one.

Happened to me too!

I didn't stay on it long, but I was on Effexor for three years and it was a big help.

honeyface... it seems a lot of us are "nuts" for having those brain zaps with the buspar lol... but its a definite symptom.. lol just an update from my previous post.. ive been off buspar since sept 28th.. and still have a full script of xanax havent had to take any at all!! its unbelievable what just knowing that i have them can do for the mind.. its like my safety blanket hahah..
