Has anyone out there successfully switched SSRI's? 13 Years ago
Hello. I'm on 40mg Paxil/day. Have been for 10 years with great results. I feel like it has stopped working. Have any of you experienced this and successfully switched meds? Thanks!

I wasn't on anything long term. But when I first was prescribed SSRI-it was zoloft-horrible-made me anxious, insomnia, exaggerated startle-awful. Then went to prozac and was great. So I know from my experience that if one doesn't do it another can. Good luck! lamy

I switched from zoloft (10 yrs on) to lexapro. It took me about 2 months to make the change. The doctor had me do a cross taper. He also prescribed me klonopin to help with the transition.

You can read back through my blogs, but I started getting hourly panic attacks and was a mess. The pdoc thinks I had "ssri poop out" with the Zoloft. I do think the lexapro is helping. I don't have any side effects that I notice.
Feel free to message me with any questions. I know it is a tough thing to go through.

I switched from Paxil 40 mg/day to Lexapro 15 mg/day and it seems to be working more or less. I had the same situation as you -- it seemed like the Paxil had stopped working (which, as I understand it, happens with most SSRIs after about 7 years, give or take). I did a cross-taper, which is the way you need to do it, and it was rough for a while but then got better. The Lexapro doesn't seem to totally block out the panic attacks, but neither did the Paxil.

Good luck!
