Prozac burping- help! 13 Years, 3 Months ago
|
|
Okay, I already posted a blog about this, but I thought it was a rare occurrence. Well, I was typing on google "prozac b.." and there it showed up as one of the most common searches: 'prozac burp'. So it's not uncommon??
For anyone who is confused, what I'm having is this awful feeling after I take prozac. My body forces out this awful-tasting burp, and if I eat right after taking the med, the excess-air feeling stays in my stomach and makes me feel ill..
I keep burping to try and relieve it, but it won't go away! I hate this. Prozac is helping me, but this "prozac burp" is just awful. Has anyone had this? Does anyone know what to do? I heard somewhere that if you take it right before bed, which I might start doing..
Thanks for any help.. I really need it, I can't stand this thing..

Hmm. I've been taking Prozac for several years and have never heard of this.
I did gulp down the capsule in a hurry and with not enough water once. The capsule got "stuck" part way down my throat and after I gulped down a bunch of water to get it the rest of the way down I burped a bad tasting burp. But this was a one-time-only experience and easily attributable to my own haste.
You are not taking the capsule "dry" are you? I was instructed by the pharmasist to take it with "plenty of water."

Thanks so much for the response. I haven't been taking it dry, no. I've been taking it then drinking a bunch of water. Not like, two glasses, but a half a glass at least. >.<
So far I've tried a hot drink, a bit of food, milk and nothing works as of yet. >.<

Yes, this is a new one on me as well. I have been taking prozac for 10 and am currently on 80mg of it daily. A lot to say the least. I will not google this though as there have been too many bad experiences from doing that by myself as well as many on this site. I hope it stops for you as you say it's doing your mental health state well.

I was looking for random ways to stop the feeling. Unless anybody has this experience often, I don't recommend looking things up just in case they start to become afraid that they too will have it. Today, I had the sickening cramps for hours. A couple people on this site have had the same experience, but none of us knows what to do.
I hope it stops too.. Thank you both and I'll keep everyone updated on how I end up treating it. (And I'll send messages to the two who apparently have the same thing- I'm sure they're at wits end too!) I'll try every possible idea (even taking pepto bismol every day) before I decide to give up. This medication really has been doing well for me, and this seems to be the only weird side effect.
