Coming off Zoloft - anyone had success? 13 Years, 4 Months ago
I decided to come off my medicine (with my dr). We've been tapering, and Thursday I will be completely off. So far it has been ok, despite some moodiness and tummy aches. I'm really concerned I might start having crazy panic attacks again though. I'm still on ativan. Has anyone had any luck getting off this stuff?

I wasn't on Zoloft, I was on Effexor.

I was able to wean off. It was fine.

Many people can, and do, wean off successfully.

But the one thing they have in common is that their bodies no longer needed that particular chemical to remain balanced and out of the depression that required it in the first place.

It's not about "will" or "strength" or "goodness" or anything else. It is whether or not your body can continue to self-regulate its hormonal/chemical needs.

If so, then you'll do fine. If not, then you may need to go back on them.

It is a process that is highly individual.

Good luck. But if you do have to go back on them, please don't think of it as a failure or a weakness. It is just a process.

I was on Zoloft for a little while but I couldn't tolerate it. It's good that you are coming off slowly. That's the way it should be with any medicine after you've taken it for a long time--especially SSRI's.
