Klonopin Dosage for Long Term Treatment 13 Years, 4 Months ago
I have been on Klonopin for about 3 years. To start, I took just .5mg at 5pm everyday. Then I began taking .25mg at noon and then the .5mg at 5pm still. About a year later I am now up to .5mg at noon and .5mg at 5pm. Now that I am again suffering more anxiety, my psych wants me taking .5mg at noon and 1mg at 5pm.

So basically she wants me up to 1.5mg a day. Is that a lot compared to others? To be honest, she wanted me taking 1mg at noon and 1mg at 5pm for a total of 2mg per day. Since I have always been med-phobic we compromised at the .5mg at noon and 1mg at 5pm. Of course, I have not started that yet. I am still taking just .5mg twice a day for a total of 1mg a day.

My psych basically told me I am addicted to Klonopin at this point and until we can figure something else out we just have to keep with it. I am just worried (imagine that!) that I will be taking too much. Any experiences with this? Thanks for reading, guys.

I take .5mg of klonopin(also known as conazapam) when I go to bed. It wasn't good for me in the day time because I was falling asleep or at least too drowsy. We are all different however, so just telling you how it was for me. As far as the addiction goes, I, at one time, was addicted to the xanax, but it posed no problem for me to get off of it by simply being reduced and reduced to low levels until I no longer had to do so. I did not have any withdrawals. Again, we are all different. Ed

I went from being on xanax 0.5mg for 3 years to klonopin 0.25mg. They had to up my dose! I am now on 1mg 3 times a day as needed. So your dose is actually a very low dose. But people can become addicted very easily. But my view is, if it helps you with your daily life and helps you to stay calm, then whats truly the harm? Its just to me like taking heart medication. You have to take the heart medication! So I look at my klonopin as I need to take it if im having problems because it will help me!

I had started for the first bit on 2mg of clonazepam, and then tapered down. I went on paxil for my anxiety and it has worked so well that I was able to continue to decrease the clonaz. I am now on 0.25mg, the lowest dose which I take in the morning. However, when I tried to discontinue it all together, that's where things went haywire. If your Dr. has approved the increase, I would think it's ok, especially if its effective for you.
