Beta Blockers 13 Years, 4 Months ago
Just wondering if anyone has been treated for their anxiety/panic with Beta Blockers. Although it's not uncommon I don't think it's the first choice so i'm not seeing much as i scan this website. I'm wondering if Beta Blockers were successful in the treatment of anxiety and panic and if there were any side effects. Someone told me that you would feel tired and a little out of it. Thanks for any input.

Also... is a search button anywhere on this site that I might have missed. It would be great to just type in something and have all the posts regarding the subject pop-up.

Hello...Just wanted to let you know that I have been taking a beta blocker for the past 4 years for ANXIETY. For the first 3 years it worked GREAT..I had no spontaneous panic attacks at all.. And yes, at first you might feel a little tired, but most drugs to treat anxiety can have this side effect...But for me, it worked great...In fact, I am currently wearing a 30 day event moniter, and my docter wants to wait till I get through this to decide if he will increase the dose of my beta blocker because the dose I have been taking the last 4 years is very small..For most people, it only takes a small dose to help with anxiety...I take TOPROL XL 25mg once a day .....Docter may change this dose...We shall see...But just wanted to give you my own experience...Good luck and Take care..

Thanks Fablegirl. Your response is very reassuring. To be quite honest I could use some sleep so the tired part almost sounds like a blessing.
Thanks again...Dinah

I am now taking a beta blocker just as fablegirl! Umm my doctor did not exactly put me on it for anxiety but for very fast heart rate. I take atenolol 25mg twice a day. Really does help with heart palps and heart racing! If that is something that triggers your panic, I think you should give it a try. But I know I love it for the heart palps because they are uncomfortable!

I have been on propanolol (inderal) for a long time. I use it as needed, mostly in social situations (performance anxiety). I don't use it often, just as needed, and it has been a god send.
