Going from Paxil to Lexapro for Pan Attks 13 Years, 10 Months ago
Wanted to share my experience as I switch from Paxil to Lexapro for panic attacks. I was on 20mg Paxil, then I had a major panic event with aftershocks for a month or so. My Psych upped me to 40mg immediately. I've gained about 30-40lbs since I went back on paxil 10 months ago. Since I doubled my dose, I haven't been able to have an orgasm for the last month, and I've been sweating like crazy! My psych is now going to switch me to Lexapro in hopes of less side effects. I'll try to post a couple times a week and see how the switch goes.

How have others fared with this switch? I'm interested in PA disorder mainly.

Thanks!

Okay, a few days into the switch and no problems so far. I'm up to 15mg Lexapro and down to 30mg Paxil. Soon I'll switch to 20mg Lexapro and 20mg Paxil.

I've heard bad stories of withdrawl from Paxil, or going onto Lexapro, but so far, nothing for me.

Hey Kaiser Soze, loved you in the movie! :-P

I never switched between medications, though if you check a couple threads down, lrouse talks about her switchover from Lexapro to Celexa...which is the a similar idea. For the most part, switching is the same as coming off. You can expect a little breakthrough anxiety here and there, but it does go away.

Lexapro overall was a outstanding medication for me. All the side effects they claim to have I did suffer from for the first 2 weeks, but they subsided within the first month, and never came back.

Though my personal experience with the medication, is that it didn't get rid of my anxiety entirely. It just dampened it, I used this to learn about myself and come to terms with the anxiety and how to deal with it. It helped me tremendously in that aspect!! Now I'm back to square one, about 2 months off the pill, but willing to take on whatever comes my way.

Keep your hope high! It's the one thing that pushed me through it all.

I went from Lexapro to Celexa and it went very smoothly. I couldnt be happier with both of em. Hope your experience with Lexapro is better than Paxil. Could it be worse? good luck!

Ok, here's the update. About halfway through, I was getting spells of lightheadedness and shocking sensations in my arms. I take my pills at night, and these symptoms usually happened from 3 to 5pm.

I stayed at the same doses and pushed through and the symptoms went wat.

I'm not off Paxil and on 30mg of Lexapro. It seems to be woking ok.

McKoak, how are you feeling on the celexa. take citalopram which is the generic name and though i love it, it gives me some side effects. do you have any side effects? I don't know if your a minor so i don't want to list the side effects it gives me. but if your not a minor let me know and i'll tell you lol. jsut being cautious here.

Kaiser i'm glad the lexapro is working for you.
