Paxil, regular release versus CR 13 Years, 11 Months ago
Does anyone have an opinion on using Paxil controlled release tablets versus regular release? I always used the regular release but my doc wanted to up my dosage a little bit from 20mg. The next available dosage was 25mg CR. Otherwise it is 30mg regular release. Thoughts, comments?

With "regular" release you get the full dose all at once.

With "CR" (controlled release) the dosage is metered out over a period of time.

Personally, it seems to make sense to me to meter out a dosage over time just to keep the side effects and what-not on an even keel.

The side effects have definetly been reduced since I switched to the CR. Especially the "awkward" one. I am just concerned that I need a higher dosage due to the fact that the release is slower. Sorta thinking out loud and seeing who shouts out some suggestions.

It has been a few years since I used Paxil, but if I recall, 25mg was my starting dosage and it goes up from there. So I don't think of 25 mg as being a particulaly high dosage - for whatever that is worth.

Another way to think of it is yes, there is more of the active ingredient in the pill, but it only "releases" into your system a little at a time so it is not like you are infusing the full load all at once.
