Web - This web site contains lots of psychology-related information for
students and teachers of psychology.
- Have you wondered if
anyone has done a study on the psychology topic you are interested in?
While these are two sites that allow you to search the psychological and medical
databases of published research.
- Psych Info
- This is a UW database of psychology research. It is only available
to UW students and staff.
- PubMed -
This is the database maintained by the National Library of Medicine. While
it includes psychology journals, not all psych journals published are referenced
here.
Research Methods
- Research
Methods Knowledge Base - This is essentially an online textbook for research
methods in the social sciences. The information is much more detailed than
would be expected in an Introductory Psychology class. I have put it here
for those students that are really interested in research design.

Lab - a well designed, interactive site developed by the Maricopa Center
for Learning & Instruction . The site includes description of five
different methods, examples, practice activities, and quizzes.
Brain
- Neuroscience for Kids
- Even adults can learn something about the functioning of the nervous system
at this site.
- Neuroanatomy
on the Internet - a tremendous compendium of neuroanatomy links and resources
- The
History of Neuroimaging - From the Laboratory of
Neuro Imaging at UCLA, a timeline that documents important developments in
brain research from 1700 BCE to the present. Just click on the timeline
to see what event occurred at that time point.
- Axial Brain Sections
- Indiana University - a great tour through the brain. You can view images
with or without labels, and you can compare anatomical slices with MRI slices.
- The Phineas Gage Page
- Phineas Gage had an unfortunate accident (an iron rod was blown through
his skull), and this site has all sorts of information about the damage to
his brain and the changes in his personality.
- Synapse
Web - This website provides resources for the study of synapse structure
and function.

- The Effects of TV Violence
on Children - A summary by the APA on the effects of media violence.
- Media Matters - The
American Academy of Pediatrics has been vocal in their concern about the prevalence
of sex and violence in the media and its effects on children. The AAP
has organized a campaign entitled Media Matters and their site has policy
papers as well as other useful information.

Personality and Intelligence Tests on the Internet
- Please note that I do not vouch for the validity or reliability of any of
these sites. I list them here because you might have fun with them.
- Self-Discovery Workshop - an online IQ test.
I can't vouch for it's accuracy. Since first taking this IQ test, I've
taken it at two different times and my IQ score has dropped each time.
If this continues, I may need help dressing myself. I have also found
that every student seems to be a genius...or at least every student who has
given me feedback about this test. This is a free test, don't be fooled
by the message at the end of the test; they will email you your results once
you finish.
