Has anybody taken Sertraline or Zoloft? I have taken Sertraline for about 5 days. It hasn't really help me reduce my anxiety (Doctor said it would take about a week at least). However the main problem is that I cannot sleep at night. I was told that this is a side effect and that I should go away soon. However I feel really tired in the morning. I took the medication in morning to reduce the impact at night but I still struggle to sleep.
I would appreciate any feedback from anybody that has taken a similar medication
Thanks and have a good day

... I am on zoloft currently as well as for a time in the past. In the past it did the job well, i had some problems sleeping but nothing major, if it was bad i could take tylenol pm or something and that would help, and now that I am back on it I am having the same effects. I feel this med is very helpful. Before starting this med. again I had a pretty bad couple of weeks that I could not eat etc, which is why I had to go back on it, I had been off for over a year and been fine. Since my episode was so bad it took about 2 weeks for me to really start feeling better after starting the zoloft. But I noticed I slept well for a change once I first started it. Then slowly I was able to eat again. I went back to the dr after 3 months of being on the zoloft because I was still not feeling as well as I thought I should be and he moved me from 50 mg to 100 once a day, which is where I am at now. Slowly but surely I am making progress,I am in the middle of my 4th month on it, this medicine does take some time for you to feel the full effects, but you will! As for side effects, I sometimes get heartburn right after I take it, but that does not happen each time and goes away within an hour or so. Sleeping is fine, if I have some trouble i take a little something to help which my dr said was ok for me. I bet your trouble sleeping now is probably not from the zoloft since you only just started it. I really feel that after starting ANY med it take awhile to get confident in it, and to feel comfortable with it working. It is funny but starting meds can sometime cause some anxiety just because you are not sure it will work. The most important thing is to give it time and talk to your dr. if you have any side effects that really bother you. I know for me it has been a long scary road, but I do feel better everyday and need to allow myself the time to get better again. So good luck to you!! |

Yes I take Zoloft. The first week was um, weird. Random anxiety. But I felt alot better almost right away. I've been on it since March. I tried other drugs and they were awful. I keep going back to Zoloft. It's really worked the best. I'm on 75mg once a day. 50mg wasn't enough and 100mg was too much (made me kinda zombie like). If you're tolerating it ok, hang in there for like a month and see how it goes. It really helped cure my agoraphobia, and I don't get panic attacks as long as I'm above 50. I don't want to be on it forever, but it's the best drug for me now! |

... Drugs are different for everyone. It is so hard to tell if it is the right one for you since it takes forever to start working. I know, I have been there a few times. See, zoloft for me was a nightmare. I had a reaction to it. I didn't sleep at all for 3 days and my mom kept saying it takes time to work...I said no way this can't be right. You will know if it is not right. If you don't like the way you feel on it, stop. Lexapro has been great for me. Like I said though, everyone is different. Research the difference between a SSRI (lexapro, celexa, etc) and a SSNRI (zoloft) see if you get any info. Another thing I would reccommend too, DO NOT READ THE SIDE EFFECTS!!! They rare and I remember thinking I had all of them. lol Good Luck |

... Zoloft was terrible for me, I didn't even last the first 4 days on it. Maybe they started me out on too much (100mg), but I felt like a corpse. I had extreme lethargy doing anything, like going to the bathroom. I'd be out of breath before I got there. And the sleep problems were the worst...hours of laying awake at night. Plus it seemed to kill my appetite completely and murder my sex drive. My doctor said it would get better but by day 4, I'd had enough and didn't have it in me to take it another day. It's different for everyone I guess. |

SSNRI Zoloft(sertraline) is an ssri not an ssnri. ssnri target seretonin and nor epinephrine. nor epinephrine is adrenalin that works psychoactively on the brain and is somewhat responsible for the 'fight or flight' feeling we get with anxiety. sertraline is highly influential on mood and so controlling that helps anxiety. took me over a month for mine to start working. i'm on zoloft and its helping me tons. |
