SSRI and its effects and the side effects 9 Years, 10 Months ago
I am taking a risk and placing this link here. If moderator sees that as inapropriate, it's fine to take it off. I don't want to influence anyone's mind, especially not people that seriously suffer from one or the other disorder. But, maybe, only maybe, your family member might benefit from reading through this link.

I fully agree with the gist of the question but think the Dr's answer is the gist of the problem.
In my experience the drugs that mess with the serotonin/dopamine/norepinephrine/etc should only be used by experienced mental health. If regular GPs need to mess around with mental issues, and they do because shrinks cost too much, they need to be extremely receptive to hearing about adverse effects.
Instead they hand them out for everything and the FDA approves them for everything.
The Dr's answer that it doesn't matter if the problem is caused by the drug or not is exactly what I ran into. Knock my brain chemistry out of whack in the wrong way to create a worse problem and instead of admitting that was the wrong way try to fix the new problem with another batch of wrong chemicals.
When my new GP offered the suggestion that I try SSRIs I said I'd only consider that under psychiatric care because of my experience with Buspar and Wellbutrin. He understood.
My last batch argued.
I'm so glad to have a good doctor now.
I also agree this is a touchy one because of our habit of somatization.
