Car accidents and panic 1 Year, 3 Months ago
I thought I was cured. For about a year I could not drive 2 miles without having a panic attack. I would sit at stop lights and my legs would feel Ike noodles and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. After much exposure therapy and time I was able to beat it. I had been able to drive "normally" for two years. Today? Well a couple months ago the driving anxiety reared its head again. I know it will take time again and eventually I am sure this will pass. My biggest fear right now is that I am going to get in an accident due to these panic attacks. I get so worked up that I am afraid I will lose total control of my vehicle. I don't want to hurt myself or anyone else.

Re:Car accidents and panic 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
yikes. i feel the same way, im kind of embarrassed because as a 23yr old woman my friends wants to know why i wont come out with them, or i dont want to be bothered. but actualy... i cant get over the fear of driving anywhere. im scared to death too. i think that my vechile will take control. or that i will be too panicked to pay attention and get in an accident. over the last month ive almost gotten in a handful of accidents. and god has saved me every time. i dont know how much longer i can go on like this. i dont even like anyone riding in the car with me because im afraid i will panick and get them hurt also. or they will notice my strange behavior.

i think that im just going to stop driving for a while and try to get control back. its gettig worse by the day.

if u come up with a way to relax and not worry while driving or anything keep us posted! And thanks for sharing because i thought i was the only one when it came to driving

Hi jennybean, Sorry you're going through this once more. For me, my driving is progressing. I can only drive within a 20 mile radius of my house although I can drive anywhere with my hubby in the car. I'm still working on it and feel I feel I'm making progress, even if slowly. I know your driving anxiety will pass again too. I see this post is over 3 months old and sorry I missed it. Write and let us know how you're doing . . . hugs.

TO ItsMeTeesa: CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Exposure therapy helped me get back to driving after working out of years of agoraphobia. See if this type of therapy can help you. It can only help. Good luck to you . . . hugs
