Am I Going CRAZY??

Hi everyone,

I am a 26 year old Male that has some issues that are driving me crazy.  About a month ago I had this crazy weird rush go through the left side of my body, felt light headed, and kind of like i wanted to throw up.  I was at work, so i tried to walk it off, i felt like the feeling was never going to go away, i finally after 45 minutes of this went to the ER. The doctor did an EKG, CHest X-Ray and did some blood work.  Everything checked out fine, nothing going on.  A few days passed and I had the same feeling excep i was in my head, then the next day it was on the other side of my head.  I was panking like crazy at this point.  So i went to the family doctor and got checked up on and everyhting was said to be fine...once again, he put me on Celexa, which i took for 3 days and quit because i want to handle this on my own, i don't like the fake happiness everyhting is ok feeling.  So after about a week or two i started to ease up, I just recently had a mild panic attack while in N.Y. because my lower left rib/stomach area was inflammed.  I went to the doc's again yesterday and found out that I have costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilege that joins your rib to your sternum).  I think this is where the anxiety and panic all came from the start, the day before my first panic attack i helped a buddy load his dirt bike by lifting it into his pick up truck, and injured my ribs then, the next day i had a rush and tingling on my left rib/stomach area and from there on i have been having these panic/anxiety attacks thinking i am going to die or soemthing else is wrong with me.  Has anyone else been in a stituation something like this?  if so please let me know so i can try to put my mind at ease.  Thanks

Hello :) Welcome

You don't say what your doctor recommended for the costochondritis, if anything. As you only saw him yesterday, it is quite possible that you will have no more symptoms once this condition resolves. Again, now you know that there has been a physical reason that your body has been reacting to, there is also no reason to fear that you are going to die or that there is anything else wrong with you.

I think that you can reasonably relax and stop worrying. Panic/anxiety attacks are triggered by our fight and flight mechanisms, and fed by fear. They can become a learned behaviour, so that you go into an attack before you realise what's happening. It sounds unlikely that you will have any more, but there is lots of information on here that can help if you do.

Good luck. Hope the ribs mend soon :)
