Kelsey hi. There is nothing you can do, except help them enjoy the time they have and support your daughter when he goes. It's great that he is good to her, but young love often ends as fast as it starts - she may not even be going out with him by July! I've had many sleepless nights worrying about teen romances and it honestly isn't worth it. There's a lot of drama and tears, then they move on leaving you wrecked. Take care of yourself. :)

Maddie is right kelsey. Of course you are hurting for your daughter, it is hard to watch it happen. But these are experiences that she needs to go through to learn and grow and gain experience in life. Everything happens for a reason. All you can do is be there for her to comfort and console her if and when this happens. :)

If anything happens to him, Kelsey, you handle it the same way as if he was in a car crash at home. God forbid anything does happen. It would be very sad and your daughter would be distressed, but dying is a part of living and we all have to learn to deal with it.
What he will need is positive support not fearful people, so help her to prepare for him to go and how to cope until he comes back.
My first bofriend went to Ireland at the height of the troubles there. We all worried for him, but encouraged him to look forward to being home. I wrote him lots of letters telling him what I and his friends were doing & didn't ask about the situation there because I knew he would tell me all that he was allowed to. His best reassurance that he was OK was that we were carrying on our lives missing him, but not afraid.

kelsey - don't borrow trouble! It's not good for any of us to go down the road of imagination into the worst possible scenario!

Stay in the day today. Be glad that you have a daughter. Be grateful that she seems happy today. Enjoy the springtime. Relax and breathe.

Don't bite off more than you can chew!!! For many of us we can only chew about 5 minutes! So don't go past that!

There is a prayer that is really helpful:

The Serenity Prayer,

God, grant me the serenity to ACCPET THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE;

Courage TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN;

And Wisdom to know the difference!

There is a difference between what we CAN change and what we CANNOT! Putting energy into worrying or trying to change things that are out of our control only saps us of life.

So change your mind - that is one of the things you CAN change. It takes courage to change your way of thinking!

But you can do it!
