19 weeks since my husband left for Iraq.
I miss my best friend. I miss being able to look across the room when something is funny or frustrating and get that knowing look from him. I miss the hugs and the kisses.
BUT, these are some of the positive things that have come out of the deployment so far.
- I have had to figure out how to get things done (grocery shopping, driving, etc) without him
- I have been lucky enough to spend time with some wonderful women whose husbands are deployed, and one who is divorced. They are always up to hang out on the weekends. For my friends with hubbys at home, those weekends are sacred. When he gets back, I will be sure to maintain those friendships.
- I have been able to give up in worrying about things I cannot control. (I still worry about panic, etc, but I mean his safety over there)
- My close relationship with my boys - always good, but now I realize how important we are all to eachother.
- My hubby and I appreciate each other so much for any act of kindness. When he calls, or writes, I know he is taking time out of his busy day to connect with us.
- I have a greater appreciation for what he is going through - missing family, being overworked, yet bored at the same time. He says it is like Groundhogs Day, same thing, day after day.
So, one more day crossed off of the big calendar. 300+ to go.
If you have a sweetheart near you, give 'em a hug and a kiss from me. Let them know how much you appreciate them.
