Here in my hometown we are breaking all of the weather records. Today is our eleventh day of about 40 degrees celcius (that’s around 100 F). We are even recording hotter temperatures then the desert inland. This is the longest heatwave since 1930-something and it’s hard to endure because I don’t have air conditioning, but at least the nights drop about 10 degrees so I can still sleep. Anyway I have been hiding out inside and just basically keeping out of it. I’m trying to imagine I’m in Morocco or Egypt and telling myself that this is normal. I’m a bit worried about fires though, but am trying to have faith that nothing is going to happen. We aren’t expecting the temp to drop until Wednesday next week.
I caught a plane a couple of days ago and I had to really use the CBT things I knew. I was only slightly nervous about getting on the plane, and during take off there were a few air pockets but because we were going over a mountain range I expected it. So I sat there chewing my gum and listening to my ears pop and an hour into the flight I remembered that chewing gum on an empty stomach makes me feel sick. I was then acutely aware of the vibrations from the plane, and the fact that I didn’t have a window seat made me feel like I was in a bubble and there was no way out, and I felt nauseous. I made myself breath slower and look around the plane (I think having my head down doing a crossword didn’t help) and I watched the screen infront of me and told myself to keep calm etc etc. I landed fine and no one would have known the crazy thoughts in my head. As always.
