19 weeks
(Monday, 04 February 2008) Written by earthmama

19 weeks since my husband left for Iraq.

I miss my best friend.  I miss being able to look across the room when something is funny or frustrating and get that knowing look from him.  I miss the hugs and the kisses.

BUT, these are some of the positive things that have come out of the deployment so far.

  • I have had to figure out how to get things done (grocery shopping, driving, etc) without him
  • I have been lucky enough to spend time with some wonderful women whose husbands are deployed, and one who is divorced.  They are always up to hang out on the weekends.  For my friends with hubbys at home, those weekends are sacred.  When he gets back, I will be sure to maintain those friendships.
  • I have been able to give up in worrying about things I cannot control. (I still worry about panic, etc, but I mean his safety over there)
  • My close relationship with my boys - always good, but now I realize how important we are all to eachother.
  • My hubby and I appreciate each other so much for any act of kindness.  When he calls, or writes, I know he is taking time out of his busy day to connect with us.
  • I have a greater appreciation for what he is going through - missing family, being overworked, yet bored at the same time.  He says it is like Groundhogs Day, same thing, day after day.

So, one more day crossed off of the big calendar.  300+ to go.

If you have a sweetheart near you, give 'em a hug and a kiss from me.  Let them know how much you appreciate them.

I'll be praying for you and your family. My son is a Marine and got back in September. It's great that you've found so many positive things. Keep up the good work! I didn't do so well while my son was gone. I wish I had found this place back then.

Good for you, it takes an amazingly strong person to be far away from your husband and being able to list positive things. Having that attitude is going to get you so far and it is going to make the time go by faster. I promise I will give my bf a hug and kiss and tell him how much I appreciate him tonight, although I do almost every day for all he puts up with. I'm so proud of you!

You are such an amazing woman. You really make me think about what's important in my life. I'll certainly be giving my partner an extra hug tonight.

By the time you get this, another day will be off the calendar.

Biggest hugs to you and your boys. You deserve them! God bless.
